The Gillig Low Floor bus originally began production in 1997 as the H2000LF. Initially, it was a joint venture between the Hertz Rental Car agency and Gillig to provide airport shuttle buses from airport terminals to any nearby Hertz Rental Car office. Gillig later decided to market the Low Floor to the transit bus market, and it took off like a rocket, now with nearly 2,000 in service today. The Low Floor was a drastic design departure from the long-running Phantom lineup. It featured a wraparound windshield design that hugged the front body wall and roof cap contours, and the side and rear body panelling was totally different as well. Unlike the Phantom which still shares some remnant design elements from the classic-styled Gillig Transit Coach, the Low Floor's design was to be more boxy in shape.  The Low Floor from Gillig is quickly becoming the most popular low-floor bus model being offered today.

Fresno Area Express Bus No. 9902, Fresno California

Here's a nice Gillig Low Floor model. Powered by a Cummins ISM diesel engine, this bus and its sister buses were the first to use Fresno Area Express' new paint scheme. Photos and information by Justin Lowyear.
