| November 10, 2008 - A LONG AWAITED UPDATE! After a hiatus of more than eight months, I decided to add more content and reflect a few recent changes, both personally and a few changes to the website. After seven years, I am now a Gillig owner again. While the purchase hasn't been finalized as of this writing, I am working towards the goal of buying and operating a 1966 Gillig C-180D-13 out of Montesano, Washington. Due to this change, I've now consolidated the "My Former Gillig" and "My KW T-216" link tabs into a new one called "The Museum Fleet." Additionally, I've posted new content in the following galleries, with brief synopses of what's new Miscellaneous Gilligs (Multnomah County Sheriff's Dept., a Gillig in Tracy, CA, and updated photos of Tahoe Truckee's fleet; updates on School Ways and Tahoe Truckee's fleet) C-Series (New photos of ex-Enumclaw School District bus #14) Gillig Conventionals (New photos of a 1959 Gillig Conventional/International Chassis sourced from an eBay listing) 318D-Series (long awaited status update and photoshoot of Olympia School District bus #41) 636D-Series (Page 2; long awaited photoshoot of Bainbridge Island Public School District Gilligs; update on Castle Rock bus #16, update on Meadow Glade School's Gilligs, update on Bremerton School District bus #4) Gillig Phantom (new photos of Orange County Unified School District bus #17, new photos of Tahoe Truckee Schools bus #39. Reflecting on 28 years of the Phantom since Gillig is no longer producing it.) Kenworth-Pacific Photos (New photos submitted by Roy Ellingson and longtime GilligCoaches.NET contributor Zack Willhoite) Links (new links to new school bus websites) Oh, and I forgot to mention. Today is your surly webmaster's 29th Birthday! March 19, 2008 - Website "History" is reopened After doing much contemplating, I've reopened the former website address for viewing. http://www.geocities.com/gilligcoaches, serving as the last address for this website and the last "home on the web" is now fully reopened and is just as it was prior to announcing the move in May of 2006. It is a fully-functional "archive." I've also rediscovered some of my earliest graphics and logos that I've made for this site, some of which go back to the beginning, and some of which never hit the web. I'm working on including those into the website for inclusion at a later date. March 6, 2008 - Seven Year Anniversary Update! It's hard to believe, but GilligCoaches.NET is officially seven years old! To ring in the landmark occasion, a fresh new look is unveiled! In addition to the new look, loads of new photos have been posted! Here's a complete list of what's new! New photos posted: 636D-Series (Meadow Glade School, First Baptist Church of Napavine - New Additions!) 555D-Series (new photos of Shelton School District's #1-07) 855D-Series (El Dorado Union High School District - New Addition!) Miscellaneous Gillig Photos (Castle Rock School District bus #16 - New Addition!) Pacific SchoolCoach Photos (South Kitsap School Dist. Kenworth-Pacific School Coach fleet - New Addition!) Bus Status Updates Shelton School District Bus no. 1-07 (555D-Series) Puyallup School District's #1 and #6 (636D-Series) Former Chimacum School District #43 (636D-Series) Olympia School District #41 (318D-Series) New, streamlined graphics, layout, and the overall look and feel has been updated. New graphics elements have been installed on the homepage, and work will continue implimenting the new elements throughout the rest of the website! December 24, 2007 A total rewrite of the Kenworth/Pacific History section has finally been completed atter nearly two weeks of work, based on loads of new material and information I've recently received. Additionally, a new Featured Gillig has been unveiled on the homepage, in addition to more photos being added of it in the "555DT-series" section. August 21, 2007 - Phase 2 Phase 2 has now been completed! New to the website are tons of new photos in the 855D, 426D, 743D and the Pacific SchoolCoach photo gallery section. Also new are over 30 photos of our appearance at the 2007 American truck Historical Society's 12th Annual Antique Truck Show in Shelton, Washington. Additionally, five new downloads have been uploaded and added to the website! August 21, 2007 - Phase 1 Phase 1 of a three-phase update has been complete! Phase One content updates include four new PDF file downloads, scores of new Pacific School Coach images, and a new Featured Gillig (er, well, an unusual Pacific/Reo combination!). Phase 2 will be the addition of a new page dedicated to the Gillig Coach Historical Society appearance at the American Truck Historical Society's truck show in Shelton, Washington, and the addition of scores of new Gillig photos! March 13, 2007 I finally purchased the Kenworth on March 11, and have made some changes to the website to reflect that. Those changes include a new link button on the left navigation panel, and an updated photo taken in daylight hours. Additionally, I've uploaded those photos to the user gallery page. February 20, 2007 Announced the "new arrival" of my Pacific SchoolCoach, tidying up odds and ends, plus a complete rewrite of the "Pacific History" page. Part One of a three-part update. January 23, 2007 It's update time again, and over 70 new photos have been posted! New to GilligCoaches.NET are photos of a 1974, 1975, 1978 and 1981 Gillig, all 636D-series and additionally I've posted a set of new photos of a 426D-series Gillig down in John Day, Oregon. Also new to GilligCoaches.NET is a photo of a 1959 Gillig Conventional school bus with an International Harvester Corp. chassis, and set of two screenshots taken of a modified Gillig featured in an episode of the hit 80's TV series "Knight Rider." In addition, I've also scored a huge archival document for the website. In December of 2006, I located a complete and near-mint condition 1935 Gillig Bros. Custom Built Commercial Truck and Bus Bodies catalog on eBay. Full of technical information, this 19-page catalog also features some of Gillig's earliest transit and school bus offerings, and structural details and blueprints on Gillig Bros. custom-built vehicle modifications at the time. This catalog has been meticulously scanned in ultra-high resolution and turned into a 17MB PDF file for quick download over a broadband connection. Also new to the downloads page is a complete scan of a late 1940s Gillig Bros. Transit Coach brochure. Complete with technical specs, this brochure also features LOADS of photos of some of Gillig's early Transit Coach models. At 9MB, it is worth the wait if downloaded on dialup or low-speed broadband connections. The last addition to the downloads page, also scanned in high-resolution format, is a one-page article which appeared in a trade publication ca. 1968. The article highlights Gillig's move to a state-of-the-art, 1.5 million dollar, 15-acre facility on Clawiter Road in Hayward, California (which is their current facility now). It also highlights Gillig's innovations. In addition to these new downloads, I've also rearranged the downloads page, making it a little bit more cleaner looking. Last but certainly not least, I've officially released a new tool to the website. Replacing the old, outmoded system at MSN Groups, I've now implimented a system where users can upload as many photos as they want (Gillig-related, that is), with no storage limit quotas, and no hassles. The new feature, implimenting Gallery2 php-based software, is easier to use, has more features, and is more user friendly than MSN Groups, and offers a wide variety of image upload options. The next update, scheduled for sometime in February or March, will feature new photos, including a 1955 Kenworth Pacific SchoolCoach model T-126 that is in the works of being purchased by yours truly. Also scheduled is a slightly modified graphics package, and a complete new section! January 2, 2007 The Gillig Coach Club discussion forum at MSN Groups, after five years in service, has been moved to a new location. The new location, now at http://www.gilligcoaches.net/forum/index.php, will be the new, permanent home for the Gillig Coach Club, and all links referenced here have now been redirected. Additionally, a few typos have been taken care of, as well as tidying up some loose ends and whatnot. December 6, 2006 Phase 2 of the GilligCoaches.NET overhaul has been officially completed, and has been for two weeks. A new look is now in place, and there's over 60 new images added (Sorry, GilligCoaches.NET visitors, I know this is late. Those additions were actually made on November 20th and 21st). Additionally, during a search on the Internet Wayback Machine, I located the VERY FIRST header GilligCoaches.NET ever used at the http://www.geocities.com/gilligcoaches web address. The current header in the "A Look Back" page, that was originally labelled as the first, has been now corrected as the second. A special page, devoted to recreating the index page of each respective graphics package, is now in the works. Phase 3 of the GilligCoaches.NET overhaul is now underway, with the finishing touched being applied for the new forum at http://www.gilligcoaches.net/forum/index.php, and a new user image gallery upload tool being developed as well. November 19, 2006 Phase 1 of the website overhaul has been completed, and a whole new look has been released for the website! Nearly six months of development and testing has gone into making sure that this look meshes seamlessly, and it will be the "signature" look of GilligCoaches.NET for the time being. Phase two, coming in just a few days, will be the addition of new content including never-before-seen photos and brochures. Phase 3, with a release date to-be-determined, will involve the completion of moving over the Gillig Coach Club over to a new forum page currently in development. August 17, 2006 A blog has been added and the link is on the homepage. August 16, 2006 Work on the internals of GilligCoaches.NET has begun to fine-tune a new internal site search feature that's in the works for GilligCoaches.NET. In addition, I have also corrected some errors relating to a few links in the pages titled "Miscellaneous Gilligs" and "Gillig Conventionals." Special thanks to Tod Wicks, a longtime GilligCoaches.NET viewer, for pointing these errors out. I've also scanned some new content for GilligCoaches.NET that will be included very soon. Those new scans include photos taken at the American Truck Historical Society (my digital camera unfortunately bit the dust, so I've went back to standard film for the time being), a 1960 Gillig Conventional sales brochure, a 1982 sales brochure advertising the arrival of the Gillig Phantom, and some miscellaneous "Gillig Bros. Transit Coaches" service manual materials. I also moved the "#25 - Rest In Peace" photo to the "My Former Gillig" page. August 9, 2006 New trivia has been added. Longtime GilligCoaches.NET contributor Tom Shafer sent me an e-mail with more information, and noting an error that needed to be corrected. Information was also modified in the "My Former Gillig" section. In addition, I have added a series of new photos in the 636D-series section of former Chimacum School District bus no. 43. I've also changed the homepage to reflect the loss of GilligCoaches.NET's "Project #25." June 23, 2006 Over 80 new images have been added to the already gigantic and ever growing photo archive! They are in the following sections: 318D Series, 855D-Series, C-Series, and the 500-Series pages. Additionally, that count also includes 15 new photos of my former Gillig - which I have since decided to purchase and repair yet again. Also, I have added a brand new section to the photo gallery. Titled "Desktop Wallpapers," the page features the absolute best in GilligCoaches.NET photography. Additionally, I have also changed the "Featured Bus" on the homepage. June 7, 2006 A correction has been made to the Early Gilligs section. Contributor Tod Wicks sent in an e-mail noting that I had erroneously listed a shortie Gillig as being on a "Power Wagon" chassis. In his e-mail, he correctly pointed out that it was indeed a Chevrolet chassis, instead of a Dodge Power Wagon. As we pursue archival-type accuracy, we'll make sure to make a correction whenever it is pointed out. Additionally, a six-page brochure has been uploaded and added to the "Downloads" section. It features loads of technical data, quite a few photos - some of which are very interesting showing a Gillig in skeletal form. May 20, 2006 A new chapter begins! A fresh new look debuts for the Gillig Transit Coach and Pacific SchoolCoach Resource, as well as a new name, and web address! Now just simply called "GilligCoaches.NET, this site still remains the same as it has always been. Loads of new images in just about every section have been posted, as well as tons of new technical data! Look for the new images in the 855D-series, 636D-series, 426D-series, 318D-Ceries, C-Series, Emblems, and more! There's a TON of new photos in the 636D-series section as well as a load of new photos in the C-Series and 318D-series section! |
